I miscarried my first pregnancy, and I'm pregnant for the second time and don't want to screw up. My husband and I are going away for three weeks. I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant and we're going from weeks 7-10. The trip starts with getting up at 4 am 2 hour drive to the airport . Then 2 flights (Seattle to Boston), since we have a 4 hour layover. So, it's a long day of travelling. We arrive that day at 11:30 pm. Throughout the trip, I will choose to stay home and rest rather than do things like shop all day as I seem to get crampy quickly. There will be lots of driving though...like 4-6 hours at a time at least 3 times. Not my idea of fun, but whatever. My main concern is the travelling time where I can't escape to rest. I won't be carrying anything and my Dr.'s considering it a fairly normal pregnancy. The only thing he said was not to go to Caribanna (festival) because it'll be too hot and crazy. BUT I didn't specify the travel plans and the lengthy days. Can some people give me advice about travelling in my first trimester?
First of all just because you miscarried does not mean that you ';screwed up.'; That's common for us to feel that way, I did too but it's usually just not the case. Unless your doctor told you specifically that you did something horrible to cause yourself to miscarry then you shouldn't be worrying about screwing up. That stress alone is bad for you and baby.
As far as traveling especially with air travel stay hydrated. I'm 18 weeks and was just in the hospital getting IV fluids because I was so dehydrated. This was just from normal day to day activity which wasn't much. I flew when I was pregnant with my last child and my OB was big on making sure I drank a ton. Now it was not fun having to pee fifty thousand times on the plane but I stayed healthy.
On this same trip I also endured the heat and walking of Disneyland while 7 months pregnant and diabetic. I just made sure to take it slow and to take very very good care of myself. I made sure to eat and drink enough and to get plenty of rest. I couldn't do everything I would've liked to do but again I stayed healthy and that's what counts.
Do you have any special health issues? If not I really don't think you need to worry. I mean it's not like you are going hang gliding or moutain climbing or something. And during the traveling time how do you mean that you can't escape to rest? Sleep in the plane or in the car. It's the perfect time rest, what else is there to do?
I do know that when you're pregnant and sitting for long periods like in car travel it's important to stop and get out and walk every so often to avoid blood clots. I would think your doctor would've told you all this. Just be honest with him and ask him. I think things would be way more difficult if you were in your last trimester.
I wish you and your baby the best. Please remember that we are not at fault for miscarriages. Just rest and eat and drink right and RELAX. Easier said than done I know. Enjoy your vacation! Can some people give me advice about travelling in my first trimester?
Relax, and have fun. I dont see any reason to worry this early on. I was in South Beach, FL from weeks 7-8 having a blast! I knew I was pregnant so obviously didnt go partying or drinking or anything, but we did a TON of walking and sitting in the sun, it was really great. No need to worry hun! Have fun! Good luck.
If your doctor approves it should be fine
RELAX..........it sounds like you'll have plenty of time to do it! Just make sure you can get up and stretch your legs when driving..........
As far as being too ';hot'; that was the first thing my doc told me with this pregnancy - being over heated and exhuasted is NOT GOOD..........I'd just make sure you plan rest spots// make sure your husband understands that although you may not LOOK pregnant you ARE pregnant and need to be treated as such (funny how no one would question a 6 or 7 month pregnant woman restng because she's tired - but before then - they don't get it!)
I cramp too if I walk too long..........I keep my outings short/sweet and to the point 1 hour max...........just make sure you get the rest you need and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY - that's the most important.......
