I would be troubled too!
There is never anything wrong with saying a cheery good morning to people. In fact, it brightens the mood and starts the day on a good note.
I'd love to know which old grumble-bottom gave that advice.';Im troubled that a young girl was given advice not to say a cheery GOOD MORNIN to people, am i wrong??';?
I didn't see the question. You can really overdo the cheery greetings. Sometimes the people you run into just want a little quiet. Maybe it was too often and too over the top. It's too bad if the implication to do a normal, happy greeting would be dangerous or wrong.';Im troubled that a young girl was given advice not to say a cheery GOOD MORNIN to people, am i wrong??';?
A quiet smile can do wonders to, being advised not to talk to strangers is not uncommon especially for someone who is considered young and vulnerable. (I don't believe we have more child predators now than before, just with a larger population, there is a larger number of them while actual percentage remains the same, and with the news media we hear more about them, and with more concerns for the rights of criminals than victims, they can repeatedly offend, where in old days they would be found strung up or drowned in a gutter for such an offense and no one cared. Yes, I believe a stroke of the hatchet would solve a lot of sexual assaults, at least by men).
I did see the questions and answers.
We're all aware of the danger posed by some people in our community. And that danger is always real. But if we choose not to do good things just because of the possibility of bad things happening, society is certainly heading in the wrong direction.
My parents didn't teach me not to talk to strangers. They just advised me of what the risks might be, and that I should use my judgment and trust my instincts.
The knock-on effect of being nice to someone is exponential in the good it can do - and it costs nothing.
William Butler Yeats: ';There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met.';
no. some people need a cheery disposition from other people. just like people say smiling is contageous, a happy personality can be just as infectious
That advice was obviously given by some arrogant unmannered person....
l would ignore it....lf lt were me.
That is sad that she was advised not to be polite but maybe the person advising her really meant it in a 'dont talk to strangers' kind of way?
